Day 11: Walking by Faith

Day 11: Walking by Faith

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Devotional

There’s something incredibly uncomfortable about walking into the unknown. We like clear directions. We like road maps, step-by-step instructions, and confirmation that things are going to work out the way we hope. But walking with God doesn’t always look like that. In fact, faith rarely comes with a blueprint.

I’ve had seasons where I desperately wanted God to lay everything out for me—to show me what’s coming next, to explain the “why” behind the waiting, or to guarantee that the outcome would be safe and predictable. But God doesn’t often work that way. Instead, He calls us to walk by faith—one step at a time—trusting Him even when we can’t see around the corner.

The world says, “Seeing is believing.” But God says, “Believing is seeing.”

Walking by faith means trusting God’s promises even when your circumstances don’t line up with what you expected. It means choosing obedience even when you don’t have all the answers. It means keeping your eyes on Him rather than your situation.

Think about Abraham in Hebrews 11:8. God called him to leave his homeland without telling him where he was going. “He went out, not knowing where he was going.” That line has always stood out to me. Abraham didn’t have all the information—he just had a word from God. And that was enough.

Or Peter, when he stepped out of the boat in Matthew 14. As long as his eyes were fixed on Jesus, he walked on water. But the moment he focused on the storm, he began to sink. That’s a powerful reminder for us—faith is fragile when it’s based on feelings or what we see. But it’s firm when it’s rooted in who God is.

Walking by faith doesn’t mean ignoring reality. It means choosing to trust in a greater reality—that God is sovereign, that He is good, and that He is working behind the scenes even when we can’t see it yet.

Some of the hardest times in my life have been those seasons of not knowing—when I couldn’t see the way forward, when the next step felt unclear, and when my natural reaction was to freeze or turn back. But those were also the times when my faith grew the most. When all I had was His Word, His presence, and a choice to trust.

And every single time, He proved faithful.

If you’re in a season of uncertainty right now, hear this: You don’t have to have it all figured out. God is not asking you to see the whole path. He’s asking you to trust the next step. And as you do, you’ll discover that He never leads us blindly—He leads us faithfully.

So what step of faith is God calling you to take today? Is it forgiving someone who hurt you? Starting something new without knowing the outcome? Waiting patiently when everything in you wants to run ahead? Whatever it is, take that step—even if it’s trembling. Even if it’s small. Because faith isn’t about confidence in the outcome—it’s about confidence in the One who’s leading.

Additional Scripture for Meditation

  • Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
  • Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding…”
  • Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Reflection

  • Are you currently in a season where God is asking you to trust Him without all the details?
  • What “waves” have been distracting you from keeping your eyes on Jesus?
  • What would it look like for you to take the next step in faith today—even if it feels small?

Practical Application

  • Journal the Journey: Write down the step of faith you believe God is calling you to take. Then write out a prayer asking for courage, peace, and clarity as you move forward.
  • Declare Your Trust: Speak aloud each morning: “I walk by faith, not by sight. God is leading me, and He is trustworthy.”
  • Take the Next Step: Don’t wait until you feel ready. Act in faith today. Obedience in motion opens the door to God’s direction.
